Population Comparison Tool

Put two countries side by side across every indicator both of them publish — population, density, growth, life expectancy, GDP per capita, literacy, emissions and more, each with its rank among all reporting countries.

Pick any two to five countries below, or jump to one of the 254 ready-made comparisons further down — those have population history and world ranks as well.

The Twenty Largest Countries

Every pairing among the world’s twenty most populous countries.

Neighbouring Countries

Countries that share a land border, among the sixty most populous.

Continental Heavyweights

The most populous country of each continent, against the others.

How These Comparisons Work

Only shared indicators are compared

If one country publishes an indicator and the other does not, the pair is listed under “not comparable” rather than compared against a blank. Coverage differs widely — small territories report far less than large economies.

One URL per pairing

Each comparison lives at a single address with the two countries in alphabetical order, so India vs China and China vs India are the same page rather than two pages competing with each other.

Which pairings exist

Every pairing among the twenty largest countries, the leading country of each continent against the others, and land neighbours among the sixty largest — 254 in total.
